Story of the Livrée
The word Livrée comes from the Latin LIBERATA which refers to accommodation rented by members of the Papal Court when travelling. This usage existed in Italy as early as the 12th century. The use of this word became established in Villeneuve only in the 15th century to denote a cardinal's residence.

An old Livrée in the heart of the town
These 11 palaces were nevertheless built in the 14th century, after the purchase of the plots. In the garden you can admire the enclosing wall of a «Livrée» and in the courtyard: the former Notre Dame Hospital, which was part of the dependencies of Cardinal Arnaud de Via's «Livrée». This room operated in the 17th century to produce olive oil. Today the SALLE DU PRESSOIR hosts seminars and
exhibitions .
